Cold Hearth Melting, Barrier Walls (Melting Furnace Equipment)

 
Electron beam and plasma cold hearth melting processes are commonly used to recycle titanium scraps. Thay both can make round ingots as the electrodes for the subsequent VAR processing. EBM can also make retangular shaped slabs for making rolled coils, sheets and plates. They typically include the following components - plasma torchs or EB guns as the heat sources, melting retort for melting the input materials, refining hearths for removing HDI (high density inclusions) and improving molten metal chemistry uniformity, mold for casting ingots, pour lips for transferring molten metal between the hearth and mold, pullers for withdrawing ingot, and barrier walls for preventing unmelted particles flying into the ingot casting mold.
